Children’s Sports injuries

When playing sport, although it is possible to reduce the risk of injury, it is impossible to completely eliminate it.

Children especially, as they are growing and physically changing rapidly, are susceptible to injury, however their recovery rates are often much faster.

Musculoskeletal injuries (injuries to muscles, bones or ligaments) which Mr Bajaj operates on include:

Sprains and strains
These are the most common types of sports injuries in children, and they often occur in the ankle, knee, or wrist.

Fractures
Broken bones can occur in any part of the body, but they are most common in the arms, legs, and fingers.

Overuse injuries
Repetitive motions can cause stress on muscles, tendons, and bones, leading to overuse injuries such as tendonitis, stress fractures, and growth plate injuries.

Dislocations
A dislocation occurs when a bone is forced out of its normal position in a joint.

The surgical procedure will greatly vary depending on the injury, location and extent of the injury. It is important to be aware that surgery should be considered a last resort, once non-operative treatment approaches have been attempted without success.

Surgery for any injury will include phases of prehabilitation, rest and recovery. To optimise recovery, it is important to stick closely to the pre and rehab plans defined by your surgeon or recovery team.
